Legal
Privacy policy
Last updated 18 October 2026
This policy covers the website at show-overlay.louishaywood.uk and the Show-Overlay app for Mac.
In short
- The website has no accounts, forms, analytics, adverts or cookies.
- The app has no accounts, analytics or crash reporting, and sends nothing about you or your shows to anyone.
- Your recordings are saved on your Mac and never uploaded.
- The only thing the app fetches from the internet is the list of updates from this website.
Who is responsible
Louis Haywood is the data controller for the website and for update checks. Questions, requests and complaints go to hello@louishaywood.uk.
A small operation like this one doesn't have to appoint a Data Protection Officer under UK GDPR, so none has been appointed. Privacy questions go to the same person who makes the app.
Postal address: 229 Castle Lane, Solihull, B92 8SW, United Kingdom.
The website
The website doesn't ask for any personal information. It has no accounts, contact forms, analytics, advertising or social media embeds, and it sets no cookies. Fonts and images are served from this site, so your browser doesn't contact Google or anyone else when you visit.
The web host, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs of requests to the site. A log entry includes your IP address, the time, the page or file requested and your browser's user agent. These logs are kept for a short period for security and to keep the site running, and are not used to identify or track you. The lawful basis is legitimate interest in running a secure website.
The app
Camera and microphone
Show-Overlay uses your camera to show and record the picture, and your
microphone to record sound. Sound recording is on by default and can be
turned off in Settings. Recordings, and the cue log
saved with each one, are written to the Movies/Show-Overlay
folder on your Mac. They are never uploaded anywhere and Louis Haywood
never receives them.
Your local network
The app connects to Eos consoles and QLab on your local network, and can receive OSC messages from other show control equipment. That data stays between your Mac and the devices on your network.
If you turn them on, NDI output and the browser viewer send the finished picture to other devices on your local network. The browser viewer refuses connections from outside the local network, but anyone on the same network can open it while it's on. On a shared or public network, turn it off when you're not using it.
Update checks
Show-Overlay uses Sparkle to check for updates. It downloads
appcast.xml, the list of versions, from this website about
once a day, and whenever you choose Check for Updates. Like any web
request, this carries your IP address, and it includes the version of
Show-Overlay you're running. It doesn't include any information about
your Mac's hardware, your shows or your recordings, and it isn't linked
to you in any way. Requests appear in the server logs described above.
You can turn off automatic checks in Show-Overlay's settings.
What the app doesn't do
There is no telemetry, usage tracking, analytics or crash reporting. Your settings and layouts are stored on your Mac.
People in your recordings
Show-Overlay records whatever your cameras see. Louis Haywood never receives these recordings and has no control over them. If they show people who can be identified, whoever makes the recording is responsible for handling them lawfully: telling people they're being recorded, keeping the files secure and deleting them when they're no longer needed. See also Recording performances in the terms.
If you email
If you email hello@louishaywood.uk, your email address and message are used only to reply to you. They're kept for as long as the conversation needs, and deleted within 12 months of the last message unless you ask for them to be deleted sooner.
Who else sees your data
Hostinger hosts the website and processes server logs and email only to provide that service. Nobody else. Your data is not sold, shared or rented.
The website is hosted on servers in the United Kingdom. Hostinger keeps backups in Germany, which UK law recognises as giving data the same level of protection as the UK.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of any personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask for its use to be restricted, object to it being used, or ask for it in a portable format. Email hello@louishaywood.uk and you'll get a reply within one month.
If you think your data has been mishandled, please email first so it can be put right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at any time.
Children
Show-Overlay is a professional tool and isn't aimed at children. No personal data is knowingly collected from anyone under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes too. Significant changes, such as the app starting to send any new information, will also be listed in the release notes for the version that makes them.
